Mother's Love Tea
Mother Love Tea! Found the Tea Name that really fits this blend. Locals Only 2020 Mother’s Day did speak to the 100% local harvest in this tea, but not to my love of the herbs inside.
Many of the botanicals in this blend were harvested spontaneously when certain conditions occurred. First: outdoor love adventuring with a friend, or enjoying working in the gardens I tend. Second: encountering an abundance of something to harvest that I knew would soon wither, fade, and waste away if I did harvest and preserve. Third: Adoring the botanicals so much, I can't bear to see them go the way of worm food, so I grab my basket and get to pickin’!
Where we Met:
At Goodness HQ, I got to know Black Elderberry, grandmother and protector of the lower farm field here. Fireweed is discovered on family adventures in the buckhorn wilderness, or tending my own mothers garden in Port Angeles. Some fireweed leaf was lovingly crushed (for oxidation) by a dear heart non-binary who can never live physical paternally-maternalhood if ever even they wished, but shares in that mother-love to nurture. Douglas Fir surrounds our irrigation channel on the farm, shading the waterway for habitat and protection, drawing nutrition from the Dungeness, the bright tips from the shady low swinging branches.
Lemonbalm is from the goodness-gardens, discovery bay and the mountains of Port Angeles. This nervous support herb thrives in most all microclimates here. Becoming weedy even. But with the best of motherly best intentions in mind, I trust this tonic is here because it is the timely balm for this season. Catnip, from our farm, good for nervousness, indigestion and insomnia. Rose Petals were harvested in heaven! (or my moms backyard and the farm here- same same).
Fruity Bits I treasure the sweet gifts from mother apple bearing her juicy wealth collected at Betsy Wharton’s Triple C Farm in Port Angeles: The Church of Chutney, Compassion, Care <3, and our grounds here in Sequim. Strawberries from nana are rich with a mothers faithfulness to land, sharing the fragrant bounty. Spritely Currant Blossoms grace the front yard at Goodness Gardens to many an Olympic Bumble Bee and hummingbirds delight. From Discovery Bay, the Red Clover was alive with the joy of curious bumblers looking for a sweet drink.
Dandelion Flower picked on the farm with a grateful heart from a guest, reflecting the sun drenched landscape of spring. Mint was brought to the farm from wild root stock of the Olympic Wilderness, now thriving in our shady hollows. I deeply value how nature gives, and the more we listen, watch and respect all life around us, we can learn patterns, flow with our own abundance and that around us, and ride the energy. From the waves surf, to a cup of fresh currant or nettle tea.
All the love. All the provision with plenty to share.
That is how each of these harvests came about and culminated into a tea.
Concentrated sunshine and soil from across the peninsula compounded by manufacturing plants producing life, health and nourishment for me, and you.
Now this blend is named for all the heats that hold mothers love, sharing with those open to receive. Thanks Nature for your generous wild harvests and Olympic Peninsula for a climate wherein so many flourish with grace.
